Centre for Geoinformatics Inaugurated

The Centre for Geoinformatics set by IRTC with the support of Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment was inaugurated by A. Nizamudeen, State Land Use Commissioner and Director, Kerala State Remotesensing and Environment Centre on 25 August 2020.

IRTC has already involved in the preparation of watershed masterplans and has also carried out a detailed study to analyse the impact of disasters in Wayanad District. Also, flood level mapping and trainings in the area are provided.

“A new project for the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change on live and abandoned quarries existing in Palakkad, Kozhikode and Thrissur District has taken up using the facilities of the Centre. The study also aims to provide measures to restore eco restoration in identified locations. We are also considering to prepare a detailed guideline for the development of local self-government bodies in Kerala by assessing various parameters like road connectivity, current land use pattern, disaster proneness, etc.”, said Dr. S. Sreekumar, Director, IRTC, while addressing the function.
